Citizens Travels to Alaska

A group of 40 travelers from Citizens Bank Minnesota recently returned from a 12-day Alaskan Denali Explorer Trip.  Alaska’s awesome beauty isn’t confined to its interior – but extends along the 1,000 mile-long coastal waterway known as the Inside Passage.  Their journey began in Vancouver, Canada where the group boarded the Island Princess Cruise Ship for seven days and cruised north through the Inside Passage stopping in Icy Straight Point, Juneau, Skagway, Glacier Bay and College Fjord National Parks.  In Whitter they boarded a deluxe train for a scenic ride to the south rim of Denali National Park. For the next four days they enjoyed touring the beautiful interior of Alaska including the little village of Talkeetna and Denali National Park.  While in Denali, the group experienced Summer Solstice Celebration with 24 hours of sun.  The trip concluded in Fairbanks with a sternwheeler river cruise.  The group enjoyed wonderful weather while viewing some of the world’s most beautiful scenery.

Our 2019 trip is Australia / New Zealand.  There is limited ship availability.  Please call or email Jean at 507-276-2406 / gwiz.jean@gmail.com or Lori at 507-354-3165 / ldummer@citizensmn.com if you would like information.

2018 Citizens Scholarship Winners

Jordan Golberg, a Lakeville North High School graduate, and Truman Pippert, a graduate of New Ulm Cathedral High School, were recently presented with the Citizens Bank Minnesota’s eighteenth annual scholarship awards.  These scholarships are part of the Community Bankers Scholarship Program TM.  Both of these students received a $1,000.00 scholarship that is renewable for a potential value of $4,000.00 over four years of post-secondary education.

Hayden Fischer, a graduate of Lakeville South High School, and Jacob Radloff, a graduate of New Ulm High School, were the recipients of a $500.00 Citizens Bank Minnesota scholarship.  The scholarships are offered through a random drawing to graduating high school seniors from the New Ulm and Lakeville area who have completed the Citizens Real Life Skillz online classes.

Each year, Citizens awards two or more high school seniors with scholarships. Applicants must be graduating high school seniors, have an active Citizens checking account and complete Citizens financial literacy courses. The scholarship program was developed to support our belief in the youth and their potential to make a difference in our community. Citizens is proud to invest in their futures by promoting education and excellence.

MBA Honors Sharon Nordby for 50 Years of Service

Sharon Nordby and Citizens Bank Minnesota’s CEO, Lou Geistfeld.

Citizens Bank Minnesota employee, Sharon Nordby, was inducted into the Pioneer Banker Club at the Minnesota Banker’s Association Annual Summit on June 12.

“It is an award of the Minnesota Bankers Association to recognize and honor bankers who spend 50 years or more in the profession of banking in Minnesota,” Director of Education and Communications Eric Hauth said.

Sharon Nordby’s banking career began at Citizens State Bank of New Ulm (now Citizens Bank Minnesota), in New Ulm, MN as a full-time teller on January 15, 1967. She has been a true leader and has been a valuable asset to the bank throughout her many years at Citizens.

Over her years at Citizens, Sharon has seen many changes in the banking industry, made possible mostly by computers and improved technology. When she started in banking, interest and service charges were calculated manually and many ledgers were hand posted. Teller machines did not exist. Tellers doubled as bookkeepers. Checks were couriered to correspondent banks for clearance and manually posted to client’s accounts. The passbook savings rate paid at one time was much greater than the rate paid on any CD today.

In 1989, Sharon was promoted to Operations Officer/Assistant Cashier. Her duties included supervising the teller operations, vault management and security. She also served on the Management Team until her retirement in 2011.

Since July 2011, Sharon has been working on a part-time basis and truly enjoys the part-time position. Her fondest memory is that she met and worked with so many great people over the years along with meeting so many wonderful clients!
